F is for failure

                                            F Is For Failure

In the article “In Praise Of The F Word” by Mary Sherry it states that the kids now a days get diplomas that they really aren't worthy of and can't really do the work that comes with it. Students that graduated wouldn't have the basic skills which their bosses would expect them to have with their diploma. The article mentions that they can blame drugs, divorces and other variables but in reality its also the teachers fault for not being able to catch the students attention. Mary states that kids would rather pass by then actually caring for their grades because the kids don't really understand what's at risk in failing. At the end mary says we should reconsider the thought of failing kids because its a good way to motivate and give kids the will to try and learn the material instead of just letting them sail by till the point where they will crash and burn.

        In the passage it states that “Tens of thousands of eighteen-year-olds will graduate this year and be handed meaningless diplomas.”i believe this means that these kids won't be able to perform with the required criteria that the job or what ever that diploma will be used for requires of them. I think that this is very important because if the student is not capable of doing what is required from them in a job they will not be able to maintain a stable job and no stable job equals no stable income.I think this is very important because i wouldnt want to see someone who has truly accomplished nothing to be at my level and have them drag me down because they need more focus. Another reason as to why i feel this is important is

       Growing up through my life I have never given much care or thought about were I would be in 10 to 15 years nor care what kind of grades I got during school so long as i got by.

I can relate to just receiving a diploma and moving on to the next grade and once being there not understanding a word of what the teacher was going on about or what I was doing.

I remember being in 8 grade and my teachers would not give me the time of the day to actually sit down grab my attention and help me which left me wondering on what i should be doing, then leading to not even caring. I would also find that many of my classmates felt either the same way about it or were going through even more trouble. I think this why I agree with Mary Sherry on the matter that many kids will receive diplomas that mean nothing of their actual skills.

      I also agree with Mary’s idea because of my friend’s experience with this. through my friend's life he had an abusive father which lead to him not being able to concentrate in school yet he was still able to pass his classes every time. I remember there were times where we would have study sessions and he really didn't have a clue as to what we would talk about which lead him to asking many basic questions which the teachers should have answered.

I remember as we got older and  seeing his diploma yet looking at his work and would be baffled at how he couldn't do simple grade work yet would be at my same grade level. this is just another of many reasons as to why i strongly agree with “tens of thousands of eighteen-year-olds will graduate this year and be handed meaningless diplomas.”
